Proof of insurance on the school contract.
        Emergency Card completed.

Dates:
March 8th - April 2nd  – Sports sign ups distributed to middle school advisors.

Week of April 5th - Middle School practices may begin (practices and games Monday-Thursday). – Coaches will schedule an informational meeting during thuis week.

Activities
Athletic activities offered at Maranacook Middle School during the spring are: Girls Softball (7th & 8th), Boys Baseball (7th & 8th), Track & Field  (Boys & Girls),

At Maranacook we use Sports Done Right as a guideline for our Middle School Athletic Programs. The Track & Field teams are non-cut and 6th graders may participate on the teams. The boys and girls baseball/softball programs are broken into 7th and 8th grade teams. 6th graders will be allowed to participate on the 7th grade team if numbers allow. This does not mean that all kids will be getting equal playing time during games but the coaches will be looking to get quality playing time. The goal of our middle school teams is to teach the proper fundamentals and techniques to prepare them for the next level. Wins and loses are not important…but a win is a bonus.  Maranacook strives for all athletes to enjoy their sport this season so they will continue playing in future years.

Baseball/Softball Cuts
If too many 8th graders try out for a team, cuts will be needed. There is the matter of safety issues with to many players at practices with only one coach.    Uniforms, equipment and playing time are also considered when selecting teams.

Participants may also be cut if he/she is not following team or school rules. The kids are given the opportunity to play but if he/she continually are late to practice, are not putting in an effort on the field, or there are behavior issues then a meeting will be held which may result in the dismissal from the team.

The 8th grade team will not replace an 8th grader with a 7th grader. If not enough 8th graders can fill a team then 7th graders may be used to fill out the roster.
The same applies to the 7th grade team. 7th graders will not be cut in place of 6th graders and 6th graders may play on the 7th grade team if there are not enough participants.

6th Grade Tryouts
It is recommended that all 6th graders interested in athletics fill out the proper paperwork and have current physicals. If there are not enough 7th graders to fill a team after the first day of practice then 6th graders will be given an opportunity to try-out for the remaining spots.

Sixth grade parents, if your son/daughter is not on a team this year he/she will have their 7th and 8th grade years to play.

Reminders from the Co-Curricular Handbook

The penalties will begin that Friday and run until the next eligibility check, which is approximately 10 school days.
