Welcome to Maranacook Middle School,
The faculty at MCMS is proud of our school and our students. Over the past ten years, we have developed a middle school program that is focused on providing young adolescents in the community an outstanding education.
We are fortunate to be part of a community that values an educational experience that is responsive to the unique learning needs of this age group. The mission and philosophy of our school keeps us focused this goal. (Our mission and beliefs can be found in our handbook, which is a link on this site.)
We are very honored to be recognized nationally as an exemplary middle school by the National Middle School Association, The New England League of Middle Schools and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. We are committed to sharing our good work with other middle schools as they strive to improve the learning experiences for their students. Some of the highlights of our school include:
* Integrative curricula that is based on what students what to know about themselves and the world.
* A well-established advisor/advisee program that supports that social and emotional growth of the students.
* A foreign language program that prepares all students for level two classes in French, German or Spanish in grade nine.
* A fully developed Unified Arts program that includes physical education, health, music, technology education and art.
* Special education programs that promote inclusionary practices.
* Integration of technology throughout the curriculum through one to one computer access for all students.
* Team options and programs that support the diverse learning needs of all students including an Outdoor Learning program.
* Strong transition activities between schools.
* Comprehensive health services, including access to mental health support, offered within the school.
This year we will be focusing on literacy across the content areas and strengthening the transition process for our students are they enter MCS. We will also continue to evaluate the effectiveness of our school programs for students who are at risk of failing.
We welcome parent and community visitors and volunteers! If you are interested in learning more about how to be involved in the school, please contact us through our email system or by calling 685-3128.
